NEW
WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS LESSON PLAN -
While originally designed for the
third and fourth grade, this lesson should interest all educators
who teach about discrimination in any form. The Teacher's Guide
suggests that it's more suitable in Grades 9 through adult.
From a recent PBS press release: "Jane Elliott divided her
[third-grade] class by eye color -- those with blue eyes and those
with brown. On the first day, the brown-eyed children were told
they were smarter, nicer, neater and better than those with blue
eyes and were praised and given special privileges. In contrast, the
blue-eyed children had to wear collars around their necks, and their
behavior and performance were criticized and ridiculed. On the
second day, the roles were reversed..." PBS will rebroadcast
its documentary of this lesson, "A Class Divided", as Frontline's
twentieth-anniversary show on February 28.
CyberGuides
are supplementary, standards-based, web-delivered units of instruction
centered on core works of literature. Each CyberGuide contains a student
and teacher edition, standards, a task and a process by which it may be
completed, teacher-selected web sites and a rubric.

Assessment Rubrics -
Now that we are using the Internet in the classroom to support
instruction, it is important that the area of assessment
be addressed. The natural
tendency for teachers is to provide a rubric for student use and for assessment purposes.
Below you will find a collection of assessment rubrics for use of the World Wide Web that
may be helpful for you as you design your own.
