Putting Mnemonics to work in the classroom   A big part of learning is really remembering -- storing facts and phrases in one's memory bank for instant recall. This is true in every subject, from math to spelling to geography to science. And it's true even in this Information Age, when the facts about just about anything seem to be a mere mouse click away. If your goal as a teacher is to develop your students' higher-order thinking skills, then memory tricks called mnemonics will help get you there. Mnemonics are rhymes, phrases, and visual images that help kids remember basic facts. Here is a sample of some mnemonics, ideas for having your kids create their own, and a directory of places on the Internet to find more.
