Groundhog Day Job Shadowing
Coordinator: Ms. Mignonne McGee

Puxetauney Phil was not the only one out on Ground Hog Day. The eighth graders from Florien High School celebrated February 6 as Groundhog Job Shadow Day, a day dedicated to giving young people across America job shadowing experiences. Job shadowing enables kids to shadow a workplace mentor as he or she goes through a normal day of the job, providing an up-close look at how the skills learned in school are put into action in the workplace. This experience can begin to provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their dreams.

Our Mission:

  • Groundhog Job Shadow Day is an initiative dedicated to engaging students in the world of work.

Job Shadow Day:

  • Demonstrates the connection between academics and careers, exciting students to learn by making their class work more relevant.
  • Builds community partnerships between schools and businesses that enhance the educational experience of all students.
  • Introduces students to the requirements of professions and industries to help them prepare to join the workforce of the 21st century.
  • Encourages an ongoing relationships between young people and caring adults.

Our Goal:

  • To provide every eighth grade student at Florien High School each year with Job Shadowing experiences.
