Excel Instructional Activities
  • Chart Data

  • Excel-lent Links

  • Car Park Data

  • Student Test Assessment Report - IOWA  (will load slow because of size of file) Enter data in cells filled with green.  Values should be between 200 and 400.  Click on each cell that computes result to view formula.  Can you identify the absolute value?  The IF statement is used to suppress display of information if there is no data.  Manipulate and edit the formulas, remove the IF portions of the formula to see what may occur.  You CAN NOT destroy or harm the workbook or worksheets because it will not Save to the web.  You can Save As if you wish to save it to your computer. Note the Formatting and Comments.

  • Survey Results - This Excel worksheet contains results of a survey and utilizes the COUNTIF function to quickly tabulate the results.  Click on the results cells across the top of the worksheet to view the formula.  The Needs survey was created in FrontPage.  Participants completed the survey online.  The participant results are written to a file (comma delimited) that is easily imported into Excel.  We'll later provide the procedures via Viewlets to see how easily and quickly online surveys may be developed and tabulated.

  • Stock Market - There are five viewlet tutorials offering steps and procedures for setting up worksheets to track stocks.  The third tutorial provides example of summarizing the data and the last two tutorials demonstrate how to utilize charts to visually display progress.  This project may be adapted (with minor changes) to other data collection activities.

  • Budget - Open the Excel Budget to track monthly income, less normal expenditures, loans, and savings.  Students can gather information related to salaries, cost of food, insurance, etc., and cost of loans.  Various scenarios may be entered.  You may extend the budget to as many months as needed.

  • Sports - Whether you use Baseball, Track and Field, or NASCAR students can collect information and data.

  • Collect data and manage in Excel - Temperature, rain fall, weights of ...,

  • Create Conversion Tables (see Excel Templates)

  • Lists of Authors, Books, etc. (see Excel Templates)

  • Items for Mail Merge

  • Excel Draw tool to create flow charts and organizational charts.
